About
BIOGRAPHY
Heather Feather has been teaching for over 25 years and ADORES children. She believes that making music should, first and foremost, be FUN! And active. And a little crazy! Her fondest musical memories are some of her earliest, when she was singing and playing music with her family as a preschooler...and so she encourages families to enjoy music by making it together. As a performer, Heather Feather released her first solo album in 2022, "Songs for Growing," for which she was awarded two FACTOR Artist Development Grants supported by the Government of Canada and Canada’s Private Radio Broadcasters. "Songs for Growing" was nominated for the 2023 East Coast Music Awards' Children's Entertainer of the Year, the 2023 Music NL Jazz Album of the Year, and it won third place in two categories of the Funky Kids Radio 2022 Competition: People's Choice Global Album of the Year; and People's Choice Artist of the Year, Canadian Performers. "Songs for Growing" consists of twelve songs for children ages 0-10 years, and it has been described by CBC's Sonali Karnick as "appealing to kids' intelligence and sense of humour." The album has been applauded for it's highly-refined quality and attention to musical detail that engages parents and children alike. Heather's music is also instructive: there is a pedagogical material - or a lesson of some sort - in every tune. This lesson or meaning can be understood at different levels as children grow and develop. Heather's sunny, energetic personality and toe-tapping shows will have the whole family singing and dancing along to songs that are not only ridiculously joyful, but also encourage physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development in children of all ages. She promises families unforgettable, engaging quality time. And lots of laughter. Heather was educated at Memorial University of Newfoundland (BMus in Music Theory and Composition), Bowling Green State University (MM studies in Music Theory) and McGill University (PhD in Music Theory), and taught at McGill University. She currently enjoys teaching through her preschool music business WeeJam, through which she services daycares, preschools, and provides "seriously silly" parent and child group classes.
